From The Web / Most effective quit smoking message for parents
Messages focusing on child health are most likely to encourage parent smokers to quit, according to a US study.
Quit smoking messages focusing on the impact of smoking on children – and more specifically on their respiratory health, cancer, or general health – were ranked most important by smoking parents, according to the study’s findings, which were published online in Pediatrics.
The researchers conducted a cross-sectional discrete choice experiment in which 180 parent smokers attending primary care visits with their children rated 26 quit smoking messages.
The messages that focused on the health impact of smoking on children rated significantly higher than other types of messages focusing on parent or family health, or on financial outcomes, the authors reported.
