The coronavirus pandemic is not even close to being over, the WHO said this week, and is even accelerating in some regions.
“Although many countries have made some progress, globally the pandemic is actually speeding up,” World Health Organisation chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a briefing earlier this week. “Most people remain susceptible, the virus still has a lot of room to move.”
At the briefing, he also announced that a team would be heading to China next week to investigate the origins of COVID-19. “We can fight the virus better when we know everything about the virus, including how it started.”
The WHO also said that while global efforts to create a safe and effective vaccine were well advanced, success was not assured.
