What are “natural oestrogens” and what is their relevance to contraception? Proponents emphasise their “natural” status – claiming they offer reduced hepatic impact and lower VTE risk – but has this been proven in the real world? In this presentation, Prof Deborah Bateson AM reviews the available evidence, explains the biology, and advises clinicians how best to navigate patient conversations about this soon-to-be promoted option. She will provide practical insights for evidence-based prescribing, including discussing current knowledge gaps, appropriate patient selection and objective clinical assessment.
