Webcasts / Healthed Webcast – 1st April 2025
Healthed webcasts are a valuable educational platform, allowing viewers to gain up-to-date clinical knowledge through an easy, time-efficient format. Our free online seminars fill a huge unmet need amongst GPs outside of the major cities for quality, accessible education. Each webcast features four lectures and runs for two hours. While the majority of viewers are GPs, our webcasts are relevant for healthcare professionals including pharmacists and nurses.

Using SGLT2 to Reduce Cardiovascular Death in T2D – Important Updates for GPs
View profileNot all demyelinating conditions are multiple sclerosis (MS). As Dr Fiona Chan will explain in this talk, research has now identified new antibody-mediated demyelinating diseases that have been mistaken for MS in the past. She will focus on two of these conditions in particular, pointing out how they present and in whom, and, importantly, how they can be differentiated from MS and how they should be diagnosed and managed to optimise health outcomes for the patient.
Two thirds of all deaths in patients with type 2 diabetes are from cardiovascular disease. So, managing this increased risk should be a priority. In this talk, cardiologist, Professor Andrew Sindone and endocrinologist, Dr Ted Wu discuss the importance of SGLT2 inhibitors in this space and the ground-breaking evidence that has seen this class of drugs now be recommended as second-line T2D treatment after metformin, particularly for its cardiovascular benefits. Importantly, the experts will also explain recent PBS changes that have improved access to SGLT2 inhibitors as well as other practical considerations associated with these medications.
With the benefits of menopausal hormone therapy being so well known, prescribing MHT these days is all about minimising risk. In this very practical talk, Professor Rod Baber uses a series of case studies to discuss some of the challenges that clinicians face when managing women with menopausal symptoms. He will outline the appropriate assessment and management of symptomatic women with a history of conditions such as DVT, migraine, or cardiovascular disease, and explain how they can still access the benefits of MHT while minimising risks.
Often thought of as the poor cousin of ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease is not only common but also an important poor prognostic indicator. In this presentation, Dr Shannon Thomas will provide a refresher on the presenting symptoms and signs of PAD, as well as its assessment and diagnosis. He will also outline the latest management options for this condition, including the advances in endovascular surgery that are reducing the risk of leg amputation in severely affected patients.
