Webcasts / Healthed Webcast – 14th May 2024
Healthed webcasts are a valuable educational platform, allowing viewers to gain up-to-date clinical knowledge through an easy, time-efficient format. Our free online seminars fill a huge unmet need amongst GPs outside of the major cities for quality, accessible education. Each webcast features four lectures and runs for two hours. While the majority of viewers are GPs, our webcasts are relevant for healthcare professionals including pharmacists and nurses.

Heart failure is increasingly being recognised as a lethal condition if left untreated. And the need for the condition to be identified early, diagnosed and treated is becoming more and more evident. Here, Professor Andrew Sindone will discuss when clinicians should suspect this very common but under-recognised condition, including more complex presentations such as when there are comorbidities, and will also provide a practical framework for assessing these patients, not only to ensure an accurate diagnosis but also to help determine the most appropriate treatment.
Our understanding of heart failure and its pharmacological management has changed dramatically over the past decade or so. In some cases, such as with beta-blockers we seem to have done a complete turnaround. In this talk, Professor Andrew Sindone will outline the latest advances in the pharmacological management of heart failure and will present what the evidence now shows to be the most appropriate and effective treatment for this condition to, not only improve symptoms, but also to prolong life.
Our understanding and management of COPD has changed dramatically over the past decade. In this talk, Professor Dave Singh from the UK will highlight the key changes that have occurred with regard to COPD from a clinical perspective, and the latest evidence-based advice from the global organisation, GOLD whose primary focus is COPD. In particular, he will focus on the pharmacological management of the condition, including what our goals of management should be and the evidence behind these recommendations.
Iron deficiency, even in the absence of anaemia, can cause significant problems in children. From fatigue to behaviourial issues, lack of iron is often overlooked as a possible cause and yet it is surprisingly common. In this talk, Dr Rupert Hinds details the prevalence and presentations of iron deficiency in children, the likely causes, the recommended investigations and importantly what needs to be done about it.
