Infectious Diseases Physician and Vaccine Research Leader; The University of Melbourne
Dr Michelle Giles is an Infectious Diseases Physician who combines her private practice with public hospital appointments at the Alfred Hospital, Monash Health, the Royal Women’s Hospital and Sunshine Hospital. Dr Giles is able to provide specialist consultation in all aspects of general infectious diseases but particularly specialises in infections and pregnancy.

Dr Giles graduated from Monash University with Honours and then proceeded to complete her physician training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. In her final year of specialist training in infectious diseases Dr Giles was appointed the inaugural fellow in infectious diseases at the Royal Women’s Hospital which facilitated research and clinical experience in managing infections in pregnancy and gynaecology. After completing her specialist training Dr Giles was awarded an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship and completed her PhD through Monash University.

Following this, Dr Giles was awarded an NHMRC Australian Based Clinical Research Fellowship and completed her post doctoral research in hepatitis B and pregnancy. She now holds an Associate Professor position with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University.

Dr Giles continues to maintain a broad interest in all areas of infectious diseases and given her private practice structure is generally able to see all new patients within four weeks. She is available to discuss urgent referrals or clinical issues with general practitioners or other specialists.
