Webcasts / Healthed Webcast – 14th October 2025
Healthed webcasts are a valuable educational platform, allowing viewers to gain up-to-date clinical knowledge through an easy, time-efficient format. Our free online seminars fill a huge unmet need amongst GPs outside of the major cities for quality, accessible education. Each webcast features four lectures and runs for two hours. While the majority of viewers are GPs, our webcasts are relevant for healthcare professionals including pharmacists and nurses.
These are activities that expand general practice knowledge, skills and attitudes, related to your scope of practice.

Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is a deadly but very preventable condition that is occurring all too often here in Australia. IPD, such as pneumonia, meningitis or septicaemia is the most serious manifestation of infection with the very common Strep.pneumoniae bacteria. And young children, pregnant women and older people are most at risk. In this presentation, Professor Peter Richmond will update clinicians on the current recommendations for vaccination against Strep.pneumoniae - the vaccines available, which vaccine, when and for whom, which vaccines are funded and special groups to consider.
General practice is the first port of call for the vast majority of patients with an acutely painful shoulder. In this talk, orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Sushil Pant provides a practical and comprehensive framework for the assessment, investigation and management of these patients as they present in primary care. In addition, he will also be discussing important signs and scenarios that suggest a patient is likely to need urgent, or at least early referral.
New drug options are now available that can delay the progression of chronic kidney disease and prevent the need for dialysis. In this talk, nephrologist Dr Richard Phoon will discuss these new therapies - the evidence for their effectiveness, when, how and in whom they should be prescribed and the logistics of accessing these medications in the primary care setting.
Professor Rod Baber will provide methods of understanding and explaining risk in relation to MHT, particularly cardiovascular and cancer risks. Many patients, and indeed clinicians, are confused by data and descriptions of risk (or benefit), as well as terms such as probability, absolute risk, relative risk, odds ratio and hazard ratio. Prof Baber will unpack the terminology in a way that allows GPs to practically apply the understanding to their own decision making and to their patients to help them make informed decisions.
