Webcasts / Healthed Webcast – 10th December 2024
Healthed webcasts are a valuable educational platform, allowing viewers to gain up-to-date clinical knowledge through an easy, time-efficient format. Our free online seminars fill a huge unmet need amongst GPs outside of the major cities for quality, accessible education. Each webcast features four lectures and runs for two hours. While the majority of viewers are GPs, our webcasts are relevant for healthcare professionals including pharmacists and nurses.
These are activities that expand general practice knowledge, skills and attitudes, related to your scope of practice.

Epilepsy affects 1 in 26 people and is characterized by seizures. There is no doubt that menopause can impact epilepsy or specifically, the control of epilepsy. Perhaps less well known is that epilepsy can impact menopause and the consequences of menopause. Strategies include management of seizures and menopausal symptoms, bone health and fracture prevention. It's an issue that neurologist, Associate Professor Lata Vadlamudi will update clinicians on what to watch for and monitor in women with both menopause and epilepsy, and the management to ensure long term health outcomes for these women.
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is the most common reason for the hospitalisation of children with T1D. Yet it is almost totally preventable if a detailed history and a high index of clinical suspicion is present, especially in children less than 5 years of age. In this presentation, paediatric endocrinologist, A/Prof Gary Leong will explain the practical steps GPs can take to diagnose DKA early in the primary care setting.
Chronic cough significantly impacts a person's quality of life, especially since the pandemic. But the good news, according to Clinical Associate Professor Greg Katsoulotos, is that in about 90% of cases, a treatable cause can be found. In this webcast, Professor Katsoulotos will describe a practical and systematic approach to the assessment, investigation and management of chronic cough as it commonly presents in general practice. He will also discuss the not-to-be-missed red flags and what to do with that remaining 10% of cases - those with refractory chronic cough.
We used to call it menorrhagia, but it's now known as heavy menstrual bleeding and it is still a major issue for up to one in four adolescent women. In this talk, adolescent gynaecologist, Professor Sonia Grover presents the latest understanding about this condition including current definitions, appropriate assessment and management, most of which can be done in primary care. Importantly, she will also suggest the circumstances where there is cause for concern and when the patient should be referred.
