Webcasts / Healthed Webcast – 13th May 2025
Healthed webcasts are a valuable educational platform, allowing viewers to gain up-to-date clinical knowledge through an easy, time-efficient format. Our free online seminars fill a huge unmet need amongst GPs outside of the major cities for quality, accessible education. Each webcast features four lectures and runs for two hours. While the majority of viewers are GPs, our webcasts are relevant for healthcare professionals including pharmacists and nurses.

Obstructive sleep apnea significantly increases accident risk through excessive daytime sleepiness, impaired vigilance, and delayed reaction times. In Australia, untreated OSA patients have 2-7 times higher crash rates compared to the general population. Austroads medical standards require assessment and treatment of moderate-to-severe OSA before commercial driving can continue. The condition affects approximately 5% of Australian adults with higher prevalence among commercial drivers. VicRoads, Transport for NSW and other state authorities have implemented notification requirements for OSA diagnosis. The Royal Australasian College of Physicians recommends mandatory CPAP compliance monitoring for commercial drivers. This talk will explain how GPs and specialists can work together to ensure effective management, balancing road safety with appropriate return-to-driving protocols after successful treatment.
There's no doubt Menopause Hormonal Therapy is the most effective treatment for menopausal symptoms. But not every woman can, or always wants to take MHT. Dr Terri Foran will cover some of the evidence-based non-hormonal and non-pharmacological options for the treatment of the most common troublesome menopausal symptoms - namely vasomotor and vulvovaginal symptoms. In addition, she will also be discussing some of the commonly used alternative therapies that have no evidence of benefit.
For over 30 years, studies have repeatedly shown the higher the LDL cholesterol level, the higher the cardiovascular risk. But, as Dr Adam Nelson will discuss, what we now know is how and when these LDL-c levels should be assessed and managed. And how low can and should we go? In addition, Dr Nelson will outline the evidence behind the latest cholesterol target recommendations and give suggestions on how best to convince patients of the need to manage this asymptomatic risk factor to reduce their chances of a future cardiovascular event.
Chronic disease accelerates the normal rate of loss of muscle mass and strength associated with ageing, which, in turn, leads to frailty, falls and generally poorer health outcomes. In this talk, Dr Anita Munoz will highlight the importance of identifying those people at risk of deteriorating muscle health and the benefit of early intervention. In addition, she will present an algorithm that assists in the assessment and management of at-risk patients, including the evidence-based recommendations for diet and exercise to both prevent and treat sarcopenia.
