Dry Eye – Practical Management Tips for Better Outcome
Dr Alison Chiu

Dry eye disease is an increasingly common condition that, while not life-threatening, can cause considerable irritation and distress. In this talk, ophthalmic surgeon, Dr Alison Chiu will provide an update on the pathophysiology of dry eye and who is at risk of developing this condition. She will also discuss the latest recommendations for assessment and management of dry eye disease, including how to decide which artificial tear formula is most appropriate and which non-pharmaceutical therapies may be of benefit.

Prostate Cancer Screening Recommendations – Case Discussion & Q&A
A/Prof Ralph Audehm & A/Prof Jeremy Grummet

Advice about prostate cancer screening has dramatically changed since the last Australian guidelines were published more than 10 years ago. In this talk, Associate Professor Jeremy Grummet will answer questions about these changes including the updated risk: benefit profile for PSA testing, who should have this test and how PSA test results should now be interpreted and managed. In addition, this case-based discussion will cover the practical application of the new draft guidelines on prostate cancer screening that are likely to be endorsed and become standard of care in the near future.

Maintaining Muscle Mass & Nutritional Status While Losing Weight on GLP-1RAs
A/Prof Spiros Fourlanos & Samantha Stuk

The GLP-1 receptor agonists have proven very beneficial at effecting weight loss for thousands of overweight Australians, but consequences of these therapies such as nutritional deficits need to be considered. In this talk, endocrinologist Associate Professor Spiros Fourlanos and dietitian Samantha Stuk discuss the risk of nutritional deficits and loss of muscle mass associated with the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists. Importantly, they will also provide recommendations on how these risks can be mitigated, including the value of nutritional supplements to ensure that the subsequent weight loss is associated with best possible health outcome for the patient.

Cardiovascular Outcomes & GLP1 – An Update
Dr Ted Wu

Cardiovascular outcomes trials in patients with type 2 diabetes have resulted in major advances in cardioprotective therapies. We now have diabetes medications, such as SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP1 receptor agonists, being recommended as first-line treatments for patients with or at risk of cardiovascular disease. But where do we go from here? This is the question that Dr Ted Wu will be answering in this talk. In particular, he will discuss the opportunities and challenges that future research into cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes are likely to encounter.
