Webcasts / Healthed Webcast – 4th August 2026
Healthed webcasts are a valuable educational platform, allowing viewers to gain up-to-date clinical knowledge through an easy, time-efficient format. Our free online seminars fill a huge unmet need amongst GPs outside of the major cities for quality, accessible education. Each webcast features four lectures and runs for two hours. While the majority of viewers are GPs, our webcasts are relevant for healthcare professionals including pharmacists and nurses.

In children and adolescents with autism, mental health comorbidities are the rule rather than the exception. So says paediatrician, Associate Professor Daryl Efron who, in this talk, will discuss the most common of these mental health comorbidities affecting young people with ASD. He will also outline the role GPs can play in detecting, monitoring, managing and treating these coexisting mental health conditions such as anxiety, ADHD and sleep disorders to improve health outcomes for this vulnerable population.

Weight gain in a perimenopausal woman is a common presentation in general practice. And while it may be common, it is one that still needs medical assessment and treatment not only for the woman's quality of life but also for the potential health benefits, specifically metabolic disease prevention. In this session, GP Dr Angela Kwong will discuss the various issues and considerations arising with this type of presentation with endocrinologist, Dr Nadia Tejani and weight management GP, Dr Georgia Rigas.

Gene testing, via a simple cheek swab has the potential to become a major primary care priority to help predict medication effectiveness and safety. In this talk, Dr Rebecca Purvis will discuss how this pharmacogenomics testing, available now, can be useful in identifying specific variants in genes that affect responses to commonly prescribed medications. She will also outline how this knowledge can help ensure that the right medications in the right doses are prescribed for the right patients, improving the likelihood of effectiveness and reducing the risk of side effects.

Seven years on from its first edition, the WHO's updated dementia risk-reduction guidelines give GPs considerably more to work with. New recommendations on sleep, hearing and vision impairment, traumatic brain injury, stroke and air pollution widen the scope of who can be helped and when – while clarifying what not to do, including routine supplements. This session translates the 2026 changes into concrete actions for opportunistic risk assessment and targeted advice in everyday general practice.
