Cardiovascular outcomes trials in patients with type 2 diabetes have resulted in major advances in cardioprotective therapies. We now have diabetes medications, such as SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP1 receptor agonists, being recommended as first-line treatments for patients with or at risk of cardiovascular disease. But where do we go from here? This is the question that Dr Ted Wu will be answering in this talk. In particular, he will discuss the opportunities and challenges that future research into cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes are likely to encounter.
