Description

In this episode, Dr Lachlan Fieldhouse and Tim Fisk joins host Dr Charlotte Hespe to speak about the real world “dance” of asking about suicide, including when to ask, how to ask, and what helps patients feel safe enough to tell the truth. Drawing on lived experience, frontline general practice, and brief intervention strategies, they explore practical ways to recognise invitations, challenge persistent myths, and start building safer plans for people in distress:

  • Explore suicide assessment through both lived experience and frontline clinical perspectives
  • Unpack how and when to ask directly about suicide
  • Potential need to reset sexual repertoire and practices postpartum
  • Practical question frameworks to help GPs distinguish between distress with ongoing hope versus a more determined wish to die
  • Debunk myths, reframe warning signs, and understand the role of social connection, groups, and PHN services in ongoing support

Expert: Dr Lachlan Fieldhouse, GP and ADHD Practitioner and Tim Fisk, Founder of Complete Men

Host: Dr Charlotte Hespe, GP and Medical Educator

Total time: 28 mins
