Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is a deadly but very preventable condition that is occurring all too often here in Australia. IPD, such as pneumonia, meningitis or septicaemia is the most serious manifestation of infection with the very common Strep.pneumoniae bacteria. And young children, pregnant women and older people are most at risk. In this presentation, Professor Peter Richmond will update clinicians on the current recommendations for vaccination against Strep.pneumoniae – the vaccines available, which vaccine, when and for whom, which vaccines are funded and special groups to consider.
