Listen to the episode

Description

Recommendations for GP’s on the detection, assessment and management of patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have recently been published with the aim of addressing key aspects of the management of MCI in primary care. To support these recommendations this series of 4 podcasts aims to provide information that will assist GP’s in making appropriate diagnoses and provide the most relevant, evidence-based management options and support.

In this episode:

  • The importance of accurately diagnosing mild cognitive impairment early
  • Lifestyle & CVD risk factor modification are important with the Mediterranean diet, and medical food Souvenaid showing benefits if taken daily for three years
  • The importance of reducing the burden of anticholinergic agents being taken
  • Soon there will be monoclonal antibody therapy aimed at reducing amyloid plaque, which has delayed progression of cognitive impairment, however accurate diagnosis will be required to access these agents
  • We believe the patient can die with the disease, and not because of the disease
