College mass exodus unlikely, survey finds

More CPD homes not yet impacting on College membership

Just 7% of GPs are seriously considering changing their CPD home next year, Healthed’s survey of more than 2100 respondents found.

Despite loss of its CPD monopoly and the emergence of competitors this year, the RACGP is still CPD home for 9 out of 10 GPs — and that’s not likely to change in a hurry, the survey suggests.

The College’s membership attrition rates are not publicly available, so it’s unclear how this data compares to previous years.

Previously, GPs who were dissatisfied with the College had no choice beyond moving to ACRRM. But as more CPD homes become available, the decision dynamic is changing.

A similar proportion of GPs reported that they were contemplating leaving ACRRM and the RACGP – however the sample size for the ACRRM group was too small (130) for statistically reliable analysis.

Dr Amit Vohra, Chief Operating Officer of the new AMA CPD home, is not expecting any revolutions.

“Our own research is in alignment with the Healthed findings. We expect that the vast majority of doctors will stay with their respective colleges,” he said.

“However as time progresses and doctors understand the new changes and the options available to them, some will inevitably look for platforms that better suit their needs.”

Healthed’s surveys have also shown that the College’s approval ratings are trending down again, after hitting a high point in August 2022. The degree to which this may or may not be contributing to the College’s attrition rates is yet to be determined.
