Topics to be covered

Management of Post-Vaccination Reactions
Dr Victoria Hayes

Fever and pain are known to be side-effects following standard vaccinations in young children. But which vaccines are more likely to cause these problems? Can the risk of side effects be minimized? And how best should side-effects be managed once they do occur? In this talk, Dr Victoria Hayes answers all these questions and provides the latest, evidence-based recommendations for effectively managing this very bread-and-butter area of general practice.

Preventing Renal Failure in Type 2 Diabetes – New Options
Dr Bobby Chan

A new therapeutic option is now available to prevent renal failure in patients with type 2 diabetes. In his talk, Dr Bobby Chan presents the details of this new treatment for diabetes-related chronic kidney disease including evidence and effectiveness. He will also outline where and when it should be incorporated into the GP management of this very common complication (renal disease) of this very common condition (type 2 diabetes).

Detection, Assessment and Management of Pulmonary Fibrosis
A/Prof Nicole Goh

Contrary to popular opinion, pulmonary fibrosis is not rare. However, on average, it takes two years before this distressing and potentially fatal condition is diagnosed. Now that life-prolonging treatments are available, it is more important than ever that these patients be identified and diagnosed as soon as possible. In this very practical talk, Associate Professor Nicole Goh outlines the key features of pulmonary fibrosis from presenting and distinguishing signs, testing, and diagnosis to the latest evidence-based treatments. She will also provide an update on the current prognosis and natural history of pulmonary fibrosis as well as the GP's role in managing patients with this not uncommon condition.

The content of this educational program was independently developed by HEALTHED and based on the presenter’s opinions. Funding was provided by Boehringer Ingelheim.

Practical Melanoma Management for GPs
A/Prof Robyn Saw

With melanoma, early diagnosis and following the latest, evidence-based management guidelines are the key to a good prognosis. This practical presentation from Associate Professor Robyn Saw will upskill and update GPs to ensure patients with melanoma have the best chance possible to survive this deadly skin cancer. From identifying high risk patients, to biopsy techniques and appropriate referrals, Professor Saw will be sharing both her expertise and experience on all things melanoma. Not to be missed.
