Sometimes new parents just need to know what’s normal when it comes to sleeping patterns in infants, says midwife and lactation consultant, Cindy Davenport on a recent Healthed podcast.
A child with ‘sleep issues’ is a very common presentation in general practice, she says, and a lot of the time parents come in wanting a diagnosis. However, it is often the case that the infant’s sleep patterns are within the range of normal and what is needed is to manage parental expectations.
For example, three months is generally considered the minimum age for patterns of sleep and wakefulness to appear.
